Borchers® Deca Barium 12.5 is a highly efficient secondary drier. Barium improves through drying and has
good pigment wetting properties. Borchers® Deca driers are metal salts of neodecanoic acids.

  • Properties

    Barium is used as a wetting agent for pigments and extenders in solvent based coatings systems. It improves gloss and prevents adsorption of the primary driers by pigments and extenders thereby increasing coating stability during prolonged storage. In combination with Borchi® OXY – Coat, Borchers® Deca Cobaltor Borchers® Deca Manganese, barium has a similar effect to that of lead and will promote through drying in many formulations.

  • Applications

    Borchers® Deca Barium 12.5 is used in solventborne systems based on alkyds and epoxy esters that cross link by oxidation.

  • Dosage

    The typical usage level is 0.1 – 0.5% barium metal, based on binder solids. The exact amount depends up on the formulation and should always be determined in preliminary trials. Borchers® Deca Barium 12.5 can be added during the grinding process to improve pigment wetting or as a post additive along with the other driers.

  • Storage

    Protect from the effects of weathering and store at temperatures between 5 and 30 °C. Once opened, containers should be resealed immediately after each use.
