Octa-Soligen® Zinc is a secondary drier that improves the through-drying and hardness of the paint film. It is always used in combination with primary driers (manganese or vanadium compounds).
Octa-Soligen® driers are based on metal salts of 2-ethylhexanic acid (octoates) or their isomers.
We supply zinc octoates with different metal contents that meet the specific requirements of various applications:

The primary function of zinc is to keep the paint film “open”. This results in better through-drying – especially in the case of fast drying systems and baking systems – and prevents wrinkling and orange peel on the surface of the paint film. The drying time may be increased slightly.
Zinc also improves pigment wetting and dispersion and thereby increasing the gloss and color-fastness of coatings. When added to the coating formulation at an early stage, it reduces the grinding time. As zinc is almost colorless, it can also be used in large amounts without discoloring the paint film.
Octa-Soligen® Zinc is used in solventborne systems based on alkyds and epoxy esters that dry by oxidation.
As accelerator for solventborne one- and two-component polyurethane coatings we recommend our products Borchi® Kat 22 and Borchi® Kat 15.
The addition rate of zinc, calculated on the metal content per solid binder, is approx. 0.03 – 0.50 %.
The exact amount required depends on the binder and used formulation and should always be determined in preliminary trials. Octa-Soligen® Zinc can be introduced during the grinding step to improve pigment
wetting, thus at the end of process at the same time than other driers.
Protect from the effects of weathering and store at temperatures between 5 and 30 °C.
Once opened, containers should be resealed immediately after each removal of the product.
